Synopsis Written by Linus Torvalds in 1991 as an affordable UNIX that ran on his i386 PC, Linux has come a long way in the ten years and for the last few years it has been knocking down many barriers to take a place in the enterprises. The Linux developer community has grown over the years and so has the maturity of Linux. Starting about 2000, various Linux solutions are being rapidly deployed by the Enterprises. This presentation traces this process and IBM's view of where Linux is going in the future. It also outlines some of IBM's current Linux technology initiatives and how IBM participates in the Linux community.
Speaker Profile Kalpana Margabandhu , is General Manager , IBM Software Labs (ISL), India.

Kalpana has been with IBM India Ltd. since 1993 and started managing the Systems Software Group, which is now the IBM Software Labs, India since 2000.

Kalpana completed her Masters in Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Prior to IBM, Kalpana worked with in PSI Data Systems.

Kalpana lives with her husband and son in Bangalore.
