Scope General
Synopsis We have finally arrived at a stage where an Indian Language enabled desktop environment is very close to reality. Now anyone can use a computer running Linux, in few supported Indian languages of his choice. With Indic support issues in Qt, OpenOffice and Mozilla close to getting resolved, a vast expanse of applications are now Indic supported. This talk will explore the developments in the past year & focus on the issue still to resolve. It will also give a breifing on what areas volunteers can help.
This talk is non-technical, anyone interested in Indian language computing can attend.
Speaker Profile Speaker is a Project coordinator of the Indian Linux Project ( http //www.indlinux.org ). He has built up considerable experience in i18n & l10n areas of Linux, and Indian language issues. Based on this he has been working towards a making a fully Indian language enable Linux distribution. Speaker is currently coordinating Gnome 2 Hindi translations and also active in KDE localization. He is also a volunteer in many localization groups primarily leading at IndLinux ( www.indlinux.org ), and also helping in formation of Localisation teams for other languages ( Telugu , Punjabi, Oriya ). He is member of Mumbai GLUG, Pune LUG ( www.plug.org.in ) and Jabalpur LUG ( http//groups.yahoo.com/group/jbp-lug/ ) and subscribed to many other LUGs including BLUG .

Presently the speaker is based in Mumbai working with Netcore Solutions Pvt Ltd ( www.netcore.co.in ), primarly on Linux based solutions. IndLinux project is actively being supported by Netcore.
