Seeing is Believing
The community presence at IT.COM '99 (http://linux-bangalore.org/blug/events/itcom99/) had the motto Seeing is Believing - targetted at introducing people to Linux and orther FOSS technologies.
By the time the community repeated its performance at IT.COM 2000 (http://linux-bangalore.org/blug/events/itcom2000/), awareness of Linux had grown tremendously - media and industry were abuzz with stories about the wonderful things that could be done with this "rebel" technology.
Own Event
Linux Bangalore/2001 (http://linux-bangalore.org/2001) was a distinct move away from the common advocacy model - instead of treating Linux and FOSS as something alien, something new, the approach of the highly successful LB series of conferences was to integrate resource pools of industry, academia and the FOSS world, to get them to understand each other and to introduce people to development and product concepts beyond the "beginner stage".
Linux Bangalore/2002 (http://linux-bangalore.org/2002) and Linux Bangalore/2003 (http://linux-bangalore.org/2003) further built on the approach used at LB/2001.
Beyond newbies
By this time, the number of Linux and FOSS resources available to newcomers to the field were tremendous - the Internet had broken down nearly all information barriers, and even the rawest "newbie" to the field of FOSS could quickly get his/her hands on information to get started.
That is why Linux Bangalore/2004 (http://linux-bangalore.org/2004) changed the focus entirely: instead of trying to be everything to everyone, the event in 2004 focussed on developers - and this resulted in the biggest such event ever to happen in India.
Changes
At the end of LB/2004, the organisers announced that the next year (2005) would see massive changes in the event - format, focus, content, organisation and even the name.
