Recent times have seen the birth and development of many high-quality games, such as Battle of Wesnoth, Glest, Epiar, Nexuiz and so on.   1. Libraries - SDL, Clanlib, OpenGL, OpenAL
  2. Engines - CrystalSpace, WorldForge
  3. Mod Development - *Radiant, Creating models (overlap with "Artwork" here)
  4. Artwork - Creation (GIMP, Blender), getting artists involved
  5. Languages - Lua, Scheme, SCUMM(?) etc. for metaprogramming
  6. GPU Progtamming - Cg, Brook, GLSL, Sh
  7. Demos - Demonstrate the games that leverage the technologies we speak of, generate awe and wonder. This is for showcasing technology ... on-the-spot fragfests would create undue distraction
