Objective

  • To demonstrate the effective use of Linux in a business/corporate environment, as well as highlight the interoperability of Linux with other computers and applications running on Windows, MacOS, Unix, etc.

  • Top Management, CEOs and CIOs
  • Corporate network managers
  • Small/SOHO business users

Demo Lineup

  • Systems running everyday office applications such as Office Suites, Internet applications, etc. under Linux.
  • Low-power/old machines acting as X-terminals running the above without minimal local resources
  • Corporate Network services such as File/Print services, Mail services, Database services, etc. This section will interact with the networks section.
  • TCO "Per-seat" comparisons with OSs and applications.
  • Other OSs accessing Linux services and exchanging data/information.

  • 4 Standard Office-config machines
    • 1 Windows 98/2000 Machine running standard office apps
    • 2 Linux Machines running standard office apps
    • 1 MacOS machine running standard office apps

Network config

  • Standard Office network setup

Floor space required:

  • 36 (6x6) Square feet for machines
  • Ample standing place for visitors

Power Requirements:

  • Enough power to run the 4 machines
  • UPS for at least 5 minutes of backup power

Handout material for interested visitors:

  • Paper brochures counter recommended (save the trees!)
  • A generic leaflet/brochure that contains web links for everything we are demoing.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • People who know Linux and who have a corporate background
  • Realists who can convincingly hold their ground before sceptics
