Development -  Powered by Linux

Objective:

  • To educate, propagate and increase awareness on Linux as a potential platform for software development
  • To indicate the ease of using Linux as a cross platform base on which development work can be done

Target Audience:

  • Software professionals, Managers (!), Tech leads, students..... general public

  • Emacs / Gvim
  • MICO / Orbit / Omniorb
  • KDevelop
  • Glade / GTK / QT
  • Perl
  • Visual Age for Java
  • Jessie (the debugger, not the person!)
  • Porting - DJGPP / ncurses / allegro

Total no. of machines:

  • 2 machines 

Hardware Config:

  • High end -Athlon, 128MB large 17" monitor no multimedia / fancy frills required
  • Low end PII, 32MB+, No multimedia / fancy frills

Network Config:

  • The bandwidth requirements are on the low side

Floor space required:

  • 18 (3x6) Square feet for machines
  • Ample standing place for visitors

Power Requirements:

  • At least 1KV power source
  • 2 power-strips
  • UPS? Do we need them?

Handout material for interested visitors:

  • Documentation reqd for all items exhibited or demo ed.
  • Details should include:

    - Hardware specs of the machines

    - Applications software used

    - What distro is being used (incld. kernel details)

    - Config steps (Basically a quick start guide)

  • Oops. And that is not Object Oriented..... Needs work.
