Home Computing - Powered by Linux

Objective:

  • To show the power of linux on the home computing front.

Target Audience: 

  • Practically everyone. More specifically home segment

Demo Lineup:

  • Different window managers
  • SOHO Appilications ( GNU Cash, Soffice, Koffice etc )
  • Instant Messengers ( Icq, Yahoo, AIM , MS)
  • Internet Browsers
  • Dial up services ( kppp, wvdial )
  • File managers.
  • Vcd's, mp3, audio cd's 
  • Games
  • Emulators (VMware, Dosemu, wine )
  • Configuration utilities.

Total no. of machines:

  • 1 machines with standard home configuration

Hardware Config:

  • Sound Card (AWE32 or better preferred)
  • 17" inch color monitor
  • >=64 MB RAM.
  • Powered speakers 
  • A 33.6 modem 
  • Ink jet Printer.

Network Config:

  • A phone line to show dial up services.
  • A connection to the LAN is also required.

Floor space required:

  • 16 (4x4) Square feet for machine.
  • Some setting to make it feel like a home machine.
  • Ample standing place for visitors.

Power Requirements:

  • At least 1KV power source
  • Need UPS too .

Handout material for interested visitors :

  • Most of the info will be at the linux-bangalore web site. 

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Just about anybody who use linux as their primary OS.
  • Should be able to speak on anything with respect to linux applications 
  • Knowledge of a X windows, desktops is a must.
