Synopsis |
This talk will present the Eternal backup and archival system for Linux, being developed at Parvat Infotech in Bangalore.
Eternal uses an algorithm developed at Bell Laboratories for the Plan 9 OS, that avoids the duplication of data stored in the archive, regardless of where that data comes from. This makes it possible to keep the entire history of the system forever. Once data is written to removable media, it is never changed, overwitten, or superceeded, making the system an ideal match for write-once media.
The history of the system can be viewed as a directory hierarchy, and accessed using normal commands. |
