Talk Title Transition from Solaris to Linux - A case study
Track Sysadmin
Scope General
Synopsis This is a case study of a project team which had
to move a whole production network from Solaris and
Windows to Linux. This talk covers the actual
production setup, the steps and phases involved in
migration, the issues and problems faced, steps taken
to prevent disruption of services, alternative
packages/programs used, steps taken to train the
workforce etc.

The actual n/w had around 60 Solaris 2.6/2.7/2.8/8.0
workstations and servers, a few Windows servers and
a Citrix terminal server.
The Solaris workstations were used for all development
and testing purposes, whereas the windows servers
were used as a proxy server and a SMB server. The
Citrix server was used to allow the project members to
use Windows applications like MSOffice and IE.

These machines were replaced in phased manner to Linux.
