This talk intends to explore what Bioinformatics is briefly, and then map those requirements on what Linux can do. The talk intends to look at the quantum and the nature of biological data, its storage and management on the Linux platform, including a brief look at the scripting tools and modules available. The talk will further explore the use of clusters, and will walk the audience through the setting up a distributed Linux environment for sequence querying, analysis and retrieval. |
Speaker Profile |
Vineeth has worked in bioinformatics for the last 15 months, and is associated with bioinformatics research with the Johns Hopkins University. He has authored 3 research papers on database tools for biological data. He develops mainly using Python, and is interested in procedure optimisations for handling large biological datasets.
