Synopsis |
Debugging is one of the prime skills for an application as well as kernel programmer to write their code more efficiently. Linux provides many ways to debug a program and solve their misbehavior. For example, GNU Debugger (GDB), Data Display Debugger (DDD) and Kernel Debugger (KDB) are the main debuggers used in Linux. GDB can be used to debug a program with various given options but DDD is just GUI version of GDB. KDB is mainly used to debug a kernel program. Apart from the above, Linux supports Linux Trace Tool Kit (LTT), but this can’t be used to debug a program, it just captures all the events in CPU during a specific period of time. It is used to do postmortem of the program. In this presentation, a review of three of the most widely used debugging tools on Linux such as GDB, DDD and KDB will be discussed. |
