If a program is successful it is likely to be used in situation that were not initially predictable. Whenever possible, code should be written in such a way that it can be made to work with minimum fuss.
Implications of portability range from version, distribution to operating system. All of these are discussed with concrete examples. While this is a general talk, it is expected to be have detailed examples.

I'm an Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from UVCE, Bangalore working with Yahoo! Inc. I've been working with and on Linux for about 7 years now.
I tend to be more interested in system development and system programming. I've been working on the Yahoo! Unix messenger client. And yes, right now choices are GNOME, C++ and vi. Any questions?
